Who
should apply
Anyone who has a BS degree in engineering
or a BFA (BS, or BA) in Industrial Design, or related fields, with
some experience and a strong interest in product development could
apply. The goal of this program is for students with traditional
backgrounds in engineering or design to learn how to work effectively
in and manage interdisciplinary teams and to build on previous education
and work experience by taking courses to better understand the processes
of related disciplines. Applicants for this program should be seeking
to enter the job market with a unique combination of engineering,
design and business or see the value in making a career move by
going back to school to learn emerging trends in new product development.

Requirements
An applicant must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited educational
institution, with a strong record of academic achievement, and be
highly recommended by three references who can attest to the student's
academic and/or professional qualifications. Additionally, Two years

- An official copy of all undergraduate and graduate
transcripts
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores no
more than 2 years old.
- A non-refundable check or money order for $55
made payable to Carnegie Mellon University
- For non-native English speakers, Test of English
as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Test of Spoken English (TSE)
scores is required. We expect TOEFL scores to be a minimum of
600 for the paper exam or a minimum 250 for the computer-based
exam.

reporting, the institution code is 2074, department code for GRE
is 1502, and department code for TOEFL is 68.

Deadlines
All test scores and completed applications must arrive in our office
by January 15, for your application to be considered in the first
review cycle.
We will begin reviewing applications after January
15 for admission in the fall semester, which begins in August. Notification letters will be mailed to applicants by March 15, 2005.

Tuition and Cost Tuition
The full time tuition for 2005-2006 academic year is $30,000.
Note: There is no financial aid for this degree. All enrolled students, or their employers, are responsible for payment in full for tuition and expenses.
Other
cost
Housing and health care usually compose the major cost for school
other than tuition. The Carnegie Mellon Housing Office helps new
students find apartments within walking distance to campus or near
the university's shuttle bus route. Health care and medical insurance
for graduate students and their families are also available.
